Toronto, Ontario — Aviva and its subsidiary Traders Insurance announced Thursday that they have teamed up with Tag, a company specializing in vehicle tracking, to offer drivers of high theft risk vehicles the ability to keep an eye on their vehicle at all times.
The Tag vehicle tracking system functions differently from other GPS-based tracking technology in that it is far more difficult to tamper with, according to a report from Rates.ca.
Even if a thief snaps a vehicle’s antenna or cuts up its wiring, the Tag system will still function thanks to an electronic identification module that is not dependent on a cellular connection.
Aviva is currently in the process of sending letters to policyholders who drive any one of the seven models identified to be high-risk theft targets, offering appointments for free installations of the $400 technology at any Speedy Glass location.
Both the offer letter and a valid Aviva pink slip are required to redeem the free Tag installation, which comes with a five-year warranty.
The seven models covered by the initiative are the Lexus RX 350, Land Rover Range Rover, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Highlander, Honda CRV, Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram 1500.
