Toronto, Ontario — Fisker is recalling 11,308 Ocean Electric SUVs globally due to an issue where the cabin electric water pump can fail, causing the vehicle to suddenly limit speeds to 16 to 32 kilometers per hour.
This ‘limp mode’ is specifically triggered by a failure in the high-voltage battery management system. The system will restrict battery power to 8.5 kW when an issue appears.
The current issue is related to a printed circuit board with insufficient conformal coating coverage.
The affected vehicles in question were sold in Canada, the United States and in the United Kingdom and the European Union. Approximately 3,000 vehicles are affected across Canada, the U.K. and the European Union, with the remaining vehicles residing in the U.S.
Fisker has outlined that only vehicles produced before March 7, 2024 will need replacement pumps.
Owners with affected vehicles will be contacted via mail beginning in August,
The automaker, which recently filed for bankruptcy, is also currently negotiating a bulk deal with a leasing firm in New York to sell remaining SUVs for prices ranging from $2,500 to $16,500. However, within this deal, the automaker has stressed that it won’t be able to honour vehicle warranties and will not be obligated to provide future repairs, maintenance or updates.
