Ottawa, Ontario — May 31, 2017 — The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF) has announced it will host a webinar in June as part of its Future of Apprenticeship series. The focus of this webinar will be completion of studies, and examine options to help apprentices complete their training.
According to the CAF, research shows that only about 50 percent of apprentices complete their training and become certified in their trade. Note this statistic is for all skilled trades combined. The percentage of collision repair apprentices that complete formal training may in fact be much less.
“More training dollars are being spent, more donations are being made to schools, more equipment dollars are being spent, but still only 20 to 30 percent of apprentices actually go to school,” said John Norris of CIIA in a report to the Ontario College of Trades. “Often employers won’t send their apprentices to school and then complain they don’t have trained staff.”
A statement from CAF says the upcoming live webinar will explore better ways to support apprentices through to completion and share best practices from across the country.
The webinar, “Future of Apprenticeship: Completion,” takes place June 13. You can register for the webinar at this link.
