Toronto, Ontario — Nissan turned its EV Leaf into a car-sized Christmas tree for 2019’s holiday season.
Every year, automakers do their best to get into the festive season by releasing holiday-themed vehicles. On Dec. 23, Nissan announced its annual festive car, a lit-up Christmas EV, with all lights powered by the car’s battery-powered electricity.
Decked out in shining baubles, flickering lights, strings of garland, and a glowing reindeer on top, the vehicle is shining a glowing light on the power of an electric vehicle.
“This was only made possible because of the energy generation by owning electric vehicles,” stated Nissan.
The vehicle was also decked out in an effort to bring attention to the Leaf’s new feature; the “e-Pedal.” The pedal is able to accelerate, decelerate and stop the Leaf while saving the car’s energy and wasting less electricity.
“The e-Pedal technology is the world’s first one-pedal operation that allows drivers to bring the car to a complete stop even on hills, stay in position, and resume driving instantly,” said Nissan.
Nissan also released a holiday-themed fact sheet, listing off the power of the electricity in the car.
Nissan claims the Christmas Leaf has the power to light up 266 Christmas trees with 700 lights for one hour. The car can also fire up 744 televisions to power five hours of movie watching and can power 297 ovens for an hour to cook a Christmas dinner.
“Santa shouldn’t be the only one with a festive mode of transport,” stated Nissan’s head of Electric Vehicles, Helen Perry. “We wanted to make the Nissan Leaf more fun at this time of year whilst driving home a very important message.”
Currently, the Nissan Leaf is one of the most popular electric cars on the market. In 2019, they surpassed more than 400,000 units sold. For more information on the Leaf, visit nissan.ca
