Rivian picks an Apple
A long-time Apple hardware engineering architect has departed the tech giant for Rivian, according to numerous reports from tech outlets last week.
DJ Novotney, Apple’s VP of hardware, previously worked on the company’s home devices technology and is also known to have started initial efforts for Apple’s rumoured electric vehicle project. He is also renowned for his work on developing the iPod and iPhone for numerous generations, as well as the Apple Watch in recent years.
The reports that Rivian has hired Novotney are particularly notable as he has spent more than 25 years of his professional career with Apple. He remains one of the few Apple executives to tout such a long tenure with the company.
As of Monday at noon E.T., shares of Rivian traded at US$15.80 per share, up 3.16 percent from market open, but down 25 percent year-to-date—and down almost 88 percent from its market debut in Nov. 2021.
