Toronto, Ontario — This week, Toyota tops the charts for sales and earnings in 2020 and AutoCanada doubles its number of Ontario stores.
Tip top Toyota
Toyota was the top-selling and highest-earning automaker in 2020, according to Uswitch’s recently released “Car Brand Earnings” research report.
According to the data, Toyota made US$275 billion in 2020: about US31.34 million per hour and upwards of US$523,889 per minute.
Volkswagen was named the second-highest earner in the report, with an annual revenue of US$255 billion; US$20.1 million per hour and US$335,363 per minute.
In third place for revenues was Daimler AG, with US$176 billion in revenue for 2020; US$20.1 million per hour and 335,363 per minute.
When it came down to most vehicles sold, Uswitch’s research determined Toyota sold the most in 2020 with 8.7 million at 724,347 vehicles per month. Volkswagen sold 5.3 million in 2020, said Uswitch.
AutoCanada times two
Edmonton, Alberta-based AutoCanada acquired 11 dealerships from the Ontario-based Autopoint Group last week, more than doubling the company’s footprint in the province from seven to 18 dealerships.
According to AutoCanada, the acquired dealerships generate annual revenue of more than $345 million, selling over 6,000 new retail vehicles and 3,000 used retail vehicles annually.
As of Monday at 3 p.m. ET, shares of AutoCanada were trading at $35.98, up four percent from Friday’s close.
