Toronto, Ontario — Collision repairers could start seeing a familiar face in its newest form as Ford recently announced it is planning to nearly double production of the F-150 Lightning pickup at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Mich.
The EV version of the F-150, a longstanding Canadian automotive staple, is expected to be produced at a rate of 150,000 units per year in order to meet demand.
“With nearly 200,000 reservations, our teams are working hard and creatively to break production constraints to get more F-150 Lightning trucks into the hands of our customers,” said Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s president of The Americas and International Markets Group.
“The reality is clear: People are ready for an all-electric F-150 and Ford is pulling out all the stops to scale our operations and increase production capacity.”
Demand for the electric pickup is so overwhelming that Ford is using a wave-by-wave reservation process, asking customers to wait for an email invitation prompting them to place their reservation. Those who do not receive an invitation in time for this year’s model will have the opportunity to place a reservation for next year, according to Ford.
The first round of deliveries for the Ford F-150 Lightning are expected to arrive at some time in the spring.
