Toronto, Ontario — A new TVO Kids, Trading Skills, which began airing on Tuesday, aims to introduce children to careers in the skilled trades industry.
According to a recent news release describing the program, the series is aimed at Generation Alpha—those born since 2010.
Featuring 26 episodes, the program introduces a cast of youth to a variety of professions, including automotive repair with the cast meeting with automotive service technician Nhu Nguyen, the only female in the world with a Porsche Classic certification.
Kristen Hurd, commissioning editor at TVO Kids commented that “recognizing the ongoing discussions about the skills gap in Ontario and beyond, we wanted to create a series that showcases the fantastic opportunities available in the skilled trades. We hope it inspires kids to explore careers they may not even know about.”
Additionally, the Sault Star outlined how Riverbank Pictures filmed the series at sites across Ontario including Sudbury, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Vaughan, Hamilton, Waterdown, the Niagara Region, Caledon, the Kitchener area and Collingwood.
Show producer Francis Mitchell further told the Sault Star that the show is “fund and engaging (and) that’s what we wanted to achieve. We wanted to find inspiring young people who love their profession. Really, this program could travel to international markets because this is not just a challenge and an opportunity here alone. I am so excited about the launch.”
