Ottawa, Ontario — Police are investigating the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles parked at Canada Post’s processing plant near the Ottawa Train Yards.
The parts were stolen overnight from a fleet vehicle parked at the depot at 1424 Sandford Fleming Ave. Since October, there have been at least 118 cases of catalytic theft in both Hamilton and Burlington.
Canada Post did not say how many parts were stolen. However, the Ottawa Police Department is investigating the matter.
Catalytic converters are prized by thieves for the high-value metal they contain, which is sold at scrap metal yards.
Ottawa police say a string of similar thefts happened in March 2019, and there have been other similar incidents scattered throughout Ontario.
