The Model Medals: SEMA announces vehicles of the year

Las Vegas, Nevada — SEMA Show exhibitors voted on the vehicles that represent the best business opportunities for the aftermarket in five categories. The announcement was made at the SEMA Vehicle Reveal, Monday, Nov. 4, the evening before the first day of the four-day SEMA Show.

The awards acknowledge categories like “Truck of the Year” and “Sport Compact of the Year”, among other categories. For the second-straight year, the Ford Mustang took home the award for SEMA’s Car of the Year.

SEMA’s pick for this year’s best truck was the Chevrolet Silverado, beating out last year’s winner, Ford’s F-Series. Jeep’s Wrangler was named the 4×4/SUV of the Year, while the best sport compact went to the Audi RS 3.

SEMA chose the Polaris RZR–an offroading vehicle–as this year’s winner for Powersports Vehicle of the Year.

“The SEMA Show is where the newest and most innovative aftermarket products are seen first,” said Mike Spagnola, SEMA vice president of OEM and product development. “SEMA Show exhibitors are the innovators and experts who drive the $45 billion industry. Knowing what they believe are the best vehicles for accessorization helps to forecast trends.”

The SEMA Awards create awareness for aftermarket products and epitomize the ongoing collaboration SEMA has with automakers and aftermarket manufacturers to bring quality products to the market.
