Toronto, Ontario — For those of you out there who might be thinking that your early-2000s Porsche is starting to outlive its former “cool factor,” the German OEM has begun selling refreshed infotainment systems to be retrofitted into certain early-aughts models.
Drivers of certain 911, Boxster, Cayman, and Cayenne models will now be able to upgrade their stock second-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a new Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus), thereby adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
The system will be able to operate climate control, locks and vehicle lights on certain models as well.
Porsche has offered the ability to retrofit newer infotainment systems into older models for some time now, but is now offering drivers region-specific features, like SiriusXM functionality for Canadian and American drivers.
Pricing in the U.S. starts at $1,475.99, though on our side of the border, Porsche Canada has yet to provide details on how much these systems will cost a Canadian customer.
The PCCM Plus infotainment system is compatible with sixth-generation Porsche 911 997’s from 2005 to 2008, Boxster and Cayman 987’s from 2005 to 2008, as well as the first-generation Cayenne from 2003 to 2008.
