Palo Alta, California — Tesla is buckling down on its collision repair capabilities, including a smoother experience for customers via Tesla Insurance, according to recent tweets from CEO Elon Musk.
“Tesla is building up collision repair capability to help address the grief you went through,” Musk tweeted in reply to a Tesla owner who recently experienced post-repair problems after taking his vehicle to a Tesla-certified centre. “Usually insurance companies make you go through their ‘approved’ collision repair partners. Tesla Insurance will make it smooth sailing.”
Tesla first announced plans to bring collision repairs in-house in 2018, though the OEM relies on its network of Tesla-approved bodyshops in Canada.
Tesla has taken steps to expand its insurance program since Musk and Zachary Kirkhorn expressed the company’s intentions for expansion during the Q2 2020 earnings call. Tesla Insurance has expanded to Texas, Illinois and Washington in the U.S. The company has also set the board to launch Tesla Insurance in other countries, like Israel, China and some nations in Europe. It has not confirmed in the program will be available in Canada.
