Hamilton, Ontario — With the pandemic on everyone’s minds, CARSTAR Hamilton Midtown hosted its annual ‘Soaps It Up’ car wash on Friday, to help raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, an immunocompromised illness.
“Thanks to our amazing team, as well as the leadership of Sharon, Kenneth and Carl we were able to pull this event together,” said Peter Chavez, owner of CARSTAR Hamilton Midtown. “We are so glad we did because we had a lineup for the whole day, it was great to be outside in the sun, people could stay in their vehicles to keep safe and we were able to raise some valuable funds for a cause that has become so close to us.”
For the past 16 years, CARSTAR Hamilton Midtown has been raising money for the cause. Last year saw the facility raise more than $10,000 for the cause.
After such a successful event, the team was more determined than ever this year to raise even more money for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, as it is more important than ever before for this immunocompromised group.
“After such momentum, the team was determined to continue its support,” said Melissa Grmusa, marketing manager for CARSTAR Hamilton Midtown.
According to Cystic fibrosis Canada, a non-profit organization, this rare disease affects over 4,200 Canadians or roughly 1 in 3600 births. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a progressive degenerative multi-system illness that affects mainly the lungs and digestive system. And there is currently no cure.
CARSTAR has been fundraising for CF in Canada for over 20 years when the franchise partner’s granddaughter received a CF diagnosis. Since then, CARSTAR has committed to its charity of choice, passing the $4-million threshold for funds raised for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the U.S., in 2019.
CARSTAR looks to continue accelerating its fundraising momentum across North America, said Chavez.
