Shifting Stereotypes: Nearly half of of Gen-Z drivers interested in learning manual transmission, finds Mini USA survey

Toronto, Ontario — Younger drivers are showing a particular interest in manual driving, with a recent survey finding that two thirds of surveyed adults aged 18 to 34 were eager to drive a manual car, despite not currently knowing how to.

This follows a recent consumer survey by Mini USA of 1,000 adults over the age of 18. It found that only 24 percent of participants currently own a manual vehicle, and that 49 percent of the participants were from Gen Z, meaning they were born between 1997 to 2012.

In addition to 53 percent of participants not knowing how to drive a manual car but expressed interested in learning, 67 percent of Gen Z drivers were the more eager to learn manual than automatic.
