Robot Overlords: General Motors considers incorporating ChatGPT into future vehicles

Toronto, Ontario — Following its push to develop cars that can tow themselves away, General Motors (GM) continues its mission to make smarter vehicles by considering installing the ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) into certain future vehicles.

According to an article first published by tech news website, Pocket Lint, GM is currently developing an AI assistant that could answer driver inquiries, provide guidelines on how to address various faults and ultimately replace owners manuals.

This system is based on Microsoft’s Azure cloud service and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, neural network based AIs that are able to learn and develop themselves over time without human input.

Stable connection to a 5G network as a standardized system may even allow this AI assistant to remotely book repair services at nearby shops or dealerships, which GM says is part of its plans to replace mobile phone connections by directly installing apps to into the vehicle’s onboard computer.

Further details have yet to be announced, such as whether these proposed features will be free to GM owners or offered as a paid subscription.

“This shift is not just about one single capability like the evolution of voice commands, but instead means that customers can expect their future vehicles to be far more capable and fresh overall when it comes to emerging technologies,” said a GM spokesperson to Reuters.

Will these systems make vehicle ownership easier or just be another gimmick? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
