Regina, Saskatchewan — Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) will be issuing rebate cheques totalling $285 million to eligible drivers in the coming months
The rebates come from SGI’s rate stabilization fund, which “help keep rates low and protect customers from wild rate fluctuations in the event of a sudden onset of claims,” said Tyler McMurchy, SGI’s director of media relations. The fund has more money than necessary, so SGI is returning those funds to the people of Saskatchewan in the form of rebates.
The amount of each rebate will defer from person to person depending on their insurance premiums paid. Drivers with multiple vehicles registered could also see larger rebates.
Rebates will be sent to people who had a vehicle registered with SGI between April 2018 and 2020, for those full calendar years. Rebates will be sent by cheque via mail beginning May 2021.
