St. Albert, Alberta — July 12, 2016 — The RCMP are investigating a possible chop shop in St. Albert, a community north of Edmonton. Two search warrants were carried out on a rural property recently by the local RCMP detachment. Officers recovered a number of items, including a Dodge pickup, a mini John Deere excavator and large quantities of illicit drugs.

Investigating officers seized vehicle parts, trailers and equipment. All of the items are believed to have been stolen. The drugs seized include marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine. The number of car parts recovered indicated that the location may have been used as a chop shop.

“It looks to me like there were a lot of vehicle pieces,” said St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Laurel Kading. “It does appear to us from our initial investigation, that’s what we’re looking at.”

The warrants were carried out at a rented property at the intersection of Villeneuve Road and Range Road 255.

“We’re still in the process of cataloguing what was seized,” Kading said, as reported by the Edmonton Sun. “It looks to us like this operation has been going on for quite an extensive amount of time.”

St. Alberta RCMP are currently investigating. Charge are pending and no arrests have been made as of yet.
