Toronto, Ontario — The company that constructs heavy-duty diesel Ram trucks is warning owners to park outside due to risks of engine fires in some models.
Fiat Chrysler–now part of Stellantis–is recalling more than 20,000 models across the U.S. and Canada. According to the brand, 2021 pickup and chassis cab trucks have heater electrical relays that can short, overheat and–in some cases–cause fires.
The fires can even ignore when engines are switched off, according to the recall notice.
The company says it knows of three fires but no injuries. None involved customer vehicles. The recalled trucks are equipped with 6.7-litre Cummins diesel engines.
Stellantis is reportedly developing a repair, while the recall is expected to start April 30.
