Toronto, Ontario — There are companies like PPG—and there are companies that wish they were like PPG—companies that wish they too were being recognized for the fifteenth time on Fortune Magazine’s 2023 Most Admired Companies list, according to a Wednesday press release.
The global automotive coatings manufacturer has long been a fixture on the publication’s list of companies recognized for their attention to innovation, people management and social responsibility, among other criteria.
This year sees PPG overtake its 2022 ranking and wind up as the fourth most admirable company in the chemicals industry. Compared to the total pool of 645 companies, across 52 industries, PPG ranked 235.
In terms of scoring, PPG earned its highest commendations in the areas of social responsibility and use of corporate assets.
“Every day, our more than 50,000 employees work to protect and beautify the world in our communities across more than 70 countries,” said PPG vice president, chief communications and government affairs officer, Bryan Iams.
“PPG’s inclusion on this prestigious ranking is a testament to our employees’ hard work and commitment. We’re honoured to be among some of the biggest and most-well-known brands and companies in the world.”
The rankings were developed by asking companies to evaluate their industry peers on a scale of one to ten, across the following nine categories:
- Innovation
- People management
- Use of corporate assets
- Social responsibility
- Quality of management
- Long-term investment
- Financial soundness
- Quality of products and services
- Global competitiveness
