Rainsville, Alabama — January 18, 2017 — Polyvance has released a new video in its nitrogen plastic welding series. The video highlights how to perform proper repairs to the tab flanges on the Hyundai Sonata. According to Polyvance, the methods outlined will also work on similar flanges.
“Some bumper covers, particularly on the 2011 to 2013 Hyundai Sonatas, are known to have tab flanges that break off from the bumper cover,” says the instructor during the video. “These bumpers have a groove along the edge where the plastic is paper-thin. This is a common design on bumpers today, which creates a need for a quality repair procedure.”
The video provides a step-by-step guide to repairs to these and similar bumpers, starting with cleaning the work area with the proper plastic cleaner.
Abrasion comes next, with the instructor scuffing the area to be welded on both the flange and the bumper. Fitting and welding comes next, followed by reinforcement with stainless steel mesh, application of aluminum tape. More welding on the underside follows. Reheating the weld and smoothing essentially finishes the procedure, leaving only a bit of clean-up left to do.
