Toronto, Ontario — January 21, 2019 — With the extreme cold and heavy snowfall Torontonians experienced over the weekend, there was a huge increase in collisions over a short period of time.
Starting on Saturday afternoon police officers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) responded to more than 100 collisions within the span of an hour and more than 350 crashes within 24 hours, Sgt Kerry Schmidt tweeted.
“Dozens more were sent to collision reporting centres,” he added in his post on Twitter.
Schmidt posted a video online showing one of the major collisions that occurred on the 401 Highway in Milton, Ontario, involving a single vehicle losing control resulting in a transport truck rolling over into a ditch.
