Antigonish, Nova Scotia – The Ministry of Natural Resources announced that 12 new level two electric vehicle (EV) chargers are on their way to Antigonish, Nova Scotia, according to a press release from Thursday.
This announcement comes alongside a $47,955 investment from the Town of Antigonish to Saint John Energy to help expand Nova Scotia’s EV charging grid to every corner of the province.
Accounting for the investment from Antigonish local government and the $495,000 provided by Natural Resources Canada, this initiative from Saint John energy also has contributions from the City of Edmundston, the Village of Perth-Andover, the Town of Mahone Bay, the Town of Berwick and the City of Summerside, which bring the total investment into Nova Scotia’s EV grid to $1,138,689.
“Through our Municipal Planning Strategy, the Town of Antigonish reaffirmed our commitment to taking more significant steps to become a more sustainable and environmentally responsible community,” said mayor of Antigonish Laurie Boucher.
“With the support from Natural Resources Canada, we move closer to our goal of further reducing our carbon footprint in Antigonish. This partnership has allowed Mahone Bay, Berwick and Antigonish to pursue this project together to benefit our residents and the investment will make the option for electric vehicles more accessible in each of our communities.”
