Šterusy, Slovakia – This past week, police in Slovakia fined a driver after a speed camera appeared to show a dog behind the wheel.
The vehicle in question was traveling 11 km over the speed limit in Šterusy, a village in Western Slovakia.
When translated into English, Slovakian police said in a Facebook post that the image from the speed camera showed a brown dog “sitting obediently behind the wheel of a Skoda.”
A 31-year-old man, who was actually driving the vehicle, claimed that his dog had suddenly leapt onto his lap, according to police reports.
However, officers said that there had been no sudden movements in the car to indicate the dog had suddenly jumped into the driver’s seat, and so they fined the driver for violating traffic regulations. The amount of the fine was not stated by police.
Police did see the humour in the event, with reports claiming that the officers who responded to the traffic violation had a mock conversation with the dog about the dangers of speeding.
