Saskatoon, Saskatchewan—More drivers are opting for personalized license plates in Saskatchewan, according to a new report from CTV News Saskatoon. As of 2024, just over 58,500 plates were registered with Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI).
Saskatchewan currently ranks second in the country for most registered personalized license plates. In first place comes Ontario with the highest Canadian vanity plate penetration rate at 4.59 percent of all plates registered in the country.
In Saskatchewan, there are several rules and restrictions regarding what a driver can display.
Specifically, SGI won’t approve slogans that are offensive, suggestive or “not in good taste.”
The government insurance also prohibits slogans that promote risky driving behaviours, drugs or alcohol, derogatory slang or racial and political connotations.
