PEI Goes Paperless: Province approves use of electronic proof of auto insurance

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island – Effective as of December 17, 2020, Prince Edward Island (PEI) drivers have the option to digitally store and present their proof of auto insurance in the form of eSlips. Approved by the Superintendent of Insurance for Prince Edward Island, this move follows Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Yukon and Northwest Territories in allowing paperless proof of auto insurance.

Launched by Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) in February of 2018, My Proof of Insurance was built with support and input from industry stakeholders to provide a modern method of providing proof of auto insurance and policy documents. With My Proof of Insurance, Insurance providers are able to send policy documents and eSlips to personal and commercial clients through secure email. This way, customers are able to easily receive and view their documents on any device and can even store their eSlips in their smartphone’s mobile wallet for easy access.

With the recent uptick in a need for more digital and secure solutions, this program allows for easy interaction between insurance providers and their clients while physical distancing measures are still in place. Insurance providers will also benefit from reduced print and postage costs, not to mention reduced administrative labour as well as added efficiency of business processes.
