Pickering, Ontario — Despite COVID-19 restrictions, hundreds of people gathered in a parking lot in Pickering, Ont. this Sunday for a not so impromptu car rally.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the event, which attracted over 300 vehicles to a Walmart parking lot on Brock Road, was organized by several car clubs.
Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan took to Twitter to condemn the rally, asking residents to not be careless and to follow COVID-19 protocols.
“We’re close to returning to some level of normalcy,” Ryan said. “Don’t do a disservice to the rest of our community.”
Police confirmed tickets were handed out, however, they did not indicate how many. They said they were unaware of any charges or arrests in connection with the gathering at this point and told CBC they will be “following up on this matter.”
