New Year, New Logo: KIA unveils new logo and global brand slogan

Mississauga, Ontario — Kia has revealed its new corporate logo and global brand slogan that signify the automaker’s bold transformation and all-new brand purpose. 

The introduction of the new logo represents Kia’s ambitions to establish a leadership position in the future mobility industry by revamping nearly all facets of the business. 

“The new logo is confident, connected, signature-style logo, based around a single unbroken line to resemble a handwritten signature to represent our promise to our customers,” according to a spokeswoman for Kia Canada. “As a major brand evolution and identity marker, the selection and development process of choosing a new logo took two years and was led by Kia Motors Corporation. The new logo isn’t just about a redesigned badge, rather, the transformation of the Kia brand and business – which includes new products and services, reorganization of the business, and transforming our working culture.”

The logo is a representation of Kia’s new brand identity and the values it promises to offer customers, through future products and services, a great experience. The unbroken line is to convey the brand’s commitment to bringing moments of inspiration and confidence to its customers. 

“Kia’s new logo represents the company’s commitment to becoming an icon for change and innovation,” said Ho Sung Song, Kia’s president, and CEO. “The automotive industry is experiencing a period of rapid transformation, and Kia is proactively shaping and adapting to these changes. Our new logo represents our desire to inspire customers as their mobility needs evolve, and for our employees to rise to the challenges we face in a fast-changing industry.”

The logo was revealed this past week during a pyrotechnic display in the skies above Incheon, Korea. The event saw 303 pyrodrones launching hundred of fireworks in a synchronized artistic display, igniting and celebrating Kia’s new beginning.

As a result, this event set the new Guinness World Record for “Most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launching fireworks simultaneously.” 

On Jan. 15, 2021, Kia will be revealing their new global brand slogan, “movement that inspires.” Details on Kia’s new brand strategy include brand purpose and philosophy, and application to Kia’s future brand line-up, will be shared through the digital “New Kia Brand Showcase” event held at 9 a.m. Korean Standard Time on January 15 (1 p.m. CET/ 4 p.m. PST January 14). This event can be viewed on the Kia Global Youtube Channel. 

The launch of the new logo follows the announcement of Kia’s “Plan S” long-term business strategy in this past year. Under Plan S, Kia, among other objectives, aims to take a leading position in the global car market. Plan S outlines the company’s shift from a business system focused on internal combustion engines, toward one centered on electric vehicles and customized mobility, according to Kia Canada. 

“As for Plan S, the new logo symbolizes an expansion of our business – popularizing EVs and purpose-built vehicles (PBVs), introducing new mobility services that are tailored to the needs of users in markets around the world,” said Kia Canada, in an interview with Collision Repair Mag. “Kia Canada is excited for all that 2021 holds as we usher in a new year and take our first step into the future with a new brand identity. We are working to finalize plans in Canada and will have much more to share in the coming weeks.”
