New Jersey Dealerships Continue To Unite To Support The Valerie Fund

Children battling cancer and blood disorders thankful for the millions of dollars raised

MAPLEWOOD, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–When the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR) first launched a special fundraising initiative in 2014, the organization never could have predicted it would become an ongoing partnership that has raised more than $2 million for The Valerie Fund and hundreds of children with cancer and blood disorders. New Jersey’s new car and truck dealerships have long been generous champions of philanthropy, supporting hundreds of charitable causes from local sports teams to national organizations.

The Valerie Fund’s mission to support children with cancer and blood disorders resonated with so many dealerships because they have such a long history of supporting the communities in which they operate. Over the last 5 years, more than 200 dealerships throughout New Jersey have embraced the Valerie Fund campaign. In showrooms throughout the State, salespeople have shared their enthusiasm for The Valerie Fund with customers who were made aware of the dealerships’ donations following test drives and vehicle purchases. Some manufacturers even matched those contributions.

“New Jersey’s 510 neighborhood new car dealerships are incredibly generous and contribute nearly $16 million each year to hundreds of worthy organizations,” said Jim Appleton. “Our members’ ongoing relationship with The Valerie Fund is a testament to the incredible work the Fund does to support thousands of children and their families in New Jersey.”

The Valerie Fund’s mission is to provide individualized care to children with cancer and blood disorders at medical centers close to home because the organization believes the most effective way to heal these children is to treat them emotionally, socially and developmentally, as well as medically. The Valerie Fund was founded over forty years ago, in memory of Valerie Goldstein, and with the tremendous growth of the organization, her parents have seen their vision realized. The Valerie Fund’s seven Children’s Centers comprise the largest network of healthcare facilities for children with cancer and blood disorders in New Jersey, and one of the largest in the nation. The Centers provide caring, comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient health care to more than 6,000 children and their families each year.

“I am so proud of the auto dealers of New Jersey for coming together across all brands to support the more than 6,000 children and families who benefit from the treatment and support provided by The Valerie Fund each year,” said Judy Schumacher, President of Schumacher Chevrolet Group in New Jersey.
