Torrance, North Carolina – RTR Vehicles, a North Carolina-based tuner, is re-releasing one of the Ford Mustang’s most striking paint colours: Mystichrome. Part of the company’s newly announced Premium Options palette, Mystichrome completely changes colour depending on the light hitting it.
Mystichrome was called Mystic when it made its debut on the 1996 Mustang Cobra. The next time it was seen after this was when it appeared on the 2004 Mustang SVT Cobra as Mystichrome. The funny thing about the colour is that it’s extremely difficult to pin down. Depending on lighting conditions, it can be seen as either blue, green, gold, purple or brown. While the colour is extremely unique, it is also seriously expensive. Ford charged $3,650USD for this option in 2004, which represents around $6,100USD in 2024. It is believed that the price is the reason why only about 1,010 units of the Mustang SVT Cobra were painted in Mystichrome.
Now for the first time in 20 years, RTR is bringing this colour back on the new Mustang. Not much has changed about the colour, the only difference being that Mystichrome now costs $15,995USD.
RTR has a new Extended Colour Palette for buyers who don’t want to settle for a factory colour, but also don’t want to pay the price for Mystichrome. These include Leadfoot Gray, Azure Blue, Rosso Scuderia, NATO Olive and Signal Green. These colours are priced at $8,995USD.
Paint-to-sample, a service that has become very popular in the upper level of the industry, is also available. Put simply, RTR can create a one-of-a-kind paint colour using a sample, which can be anything from the colour of your 1965 Mustang, the colour of your favorite sweatshirt or the colour of the cereal bowl you ate breakfast in as a kid. Selecting paint-to-sample adds $5,000USD to the aforementioned sums.
RTR’s started taking orders for its new paint colours in July 2024.
