Toronto, Ontario — July 25, 2019 — While electric vehicle sales drop across Canada, one driver is trying to prove that cruisin’ around in an EV isn’t bad at all – with or without the rebates.
Arizonan driver Wade Anderson has already begun his epic 25,000-kilometre journey through North America to prove that there’s no need to fear a dead electric vehicle because as Anderson believes, there’s a lot more charging stations than you’d think.
Wanting to hit the most significant geographical parts in North America, all in his little electric Tesla Model 3, Anderson is currently on his way through Canada so that he can reach Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The most northern part of the continent you can reach by land.
Anderson is making this trek alone but has made many new friends throughout Canada by reaching out to local Twitter users asking to borrow their superchargers along the way.
“I keep hearing that you can’t easily drive across Canada. Everybody talks about this. After Ontario, there’s nothing,” reported Anderson. “But there are third-party chargers, and at this point, you can find people at home who are willing to share their charger with you.”
It was recently reported by CBC that electric vehicle sales have dramatically dropped due to rebate cuts. According to Anderson, many are hesitant to purchase an electric vehicle because of something he calls “range anxiety” – the nagging fear one’s vehicle will run out of charge. The cut in rebates isn’t helping either.
However, Anderson hopes this journey inspires others to pick a more greener and unique mode of transportation, because at the end of the day, “too much fear is holding us back.”
“I’m just going on a journey,” Anderson reported to CBC during a quick pitstop in Woodstock, Ont. “It’s important to get out there and just live life and have these experiences.”
Anderson is currently driving through the Yukon. He hopes by the end of his trip he will have covered more than 30 states and five provinces and territories and inspired others to test out an EV.
