Toronto, Ontario — Transport Canada and General Motors have announced that the automaker is recalling 52,000 vehicles from several model years due to rear wheels that could lock and suddenly cause a loss drive power and control.
As highlighted in Transport Canada’s official recall statement, the issue is the result of a transmission control valve that could wear down and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause a loss of control and the increased risk of a crash.
The specific vehicle models covered under the recall include:
- Cadillac Escalade, 2021 to 2022
- Cadillac Escalade ESV, 2021 to 2022
- Chevrolet Silverado, 2020 to 2022
- Chevrolet Silverado HD, 2020 to 2022
- Chevrolet Suburban, 2021 to 2022
- Chevrolet Tahoe, 2021 to 2022
- GMC Sierra, 2020 to 2022
- GMC Sierra HD, 2020 to 2022
- GMC Yukon, 2021 to 2022
- GMC Yukon XL, 2021 to 2022
Transport Canada’s statement concludes that “General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise drivers to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the transmission control module software to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. If detected, a service engine light would turn on, a message would display in the instrument panel and the vehicle would be limited to fifth gear.”
