Loco Logo: Mazda recalling nearly 261,000 vehicles over steering wheel logo that can shatter during airbag deployment

Toronto, Ontario — Mazda is recalling approximately 260,915 vehicles over a plastic logo that may shatter during an airbag deployment.

The recall includes Mazda3 vehicles from model years 2004 to 2007.

Due to an improper material specification, the plastic logo to become brittle over time, says the company. In this condition, the logo may shatter during a normal air bag deployment.

Plastic fragments of the shattered logo may hit occupants during an airbag deployment in a crash, increasing the possibility of serious injury to occupants.

Currently, there is no prior warning for this defect.

Affected owners will be notified by mail. Owners can check mazdarecallinfo.com or nhtsa.gov for the latest updates.
