Detroit, Michigan — Ford published a rather interesting patent in early December; it appears the OEM is pursuing vehicular remote control capabilities via a smartphone controller.
The original patent was filed on June 2, 2021, and published on Dec. 8, 2022. The patent looks at capabilities in controlling a vehicle that’s towing a trailer, though little additional information is known about the automaker’s intentions to apply the technology.
It can be assumed, at this point, the OEM is looking to improve the maneuverability of vehicles when trailers are attached—a task known to be overwhelming for inexperienced drivers.
