Lease Police: Honda places restrictions on vehicle lease returns to curb supply shortages

Toronto, Ontario — Honda has announced it will keep a tighter grip on vehicle leases, alongside a Wednesday announcement that the OEM  will require drivers with expiring leases to return their vehicles to authorized Honda and Acura dealers going forward.

In addition to the revisions on leasing, Honda also said that they will now refuse to accept buyouts from unaffiliated dealers, citing a tight supply of cars and trucks as a result of various supply chain interruptions.

The industry has faced a semiconductor shortage over the past several months and this move from Honda is seen to be a direct result of dwindling supply among many of the major international automakers.
