Kenora repair facility nominated for business award

By Lindsey Cooke

Toronto, Ontario – January 24, 2019 – Copenance Automotive Repair Service, located in the small city of Kenora in western Ontario, has been nominated for the city’s 2019 Aboriginal Business Award.

Owner of the shop Jay Copenance said he took a gamble and opened the business in 2017 with just under $10,000.

Three years later his facility is now nominated alongside three other businesses for the Aboriginal Business Award.

This award recognizes an outstanding Aboriginal business for its success, exemplifying business leadership and the delivery of high-quality products and services. The business chosen for the award will have demonstrated a strong, long-term commitment to the community, particularly in supporting Indigenous employment.

“I feel fairly good, excited that our business is getting noticed and how much it has grown,” said Copenance.

A total of 118 nominations were received, nominating 52 businesses in 10 award categories.

The business awards take place on Wednesday, February 6 at Seven Generations Education Institute.
