Toronto, Ontario — Polestar has teamed up with Hot Wheels for its 2024 design contest in which the winning design will be turned into a die-cast model to join the toymaker’s catalogue.
As with previous iterations of the design contest, this year’s design challenge is encouraging participants to look to the future. Polestar wants entrants to “be as imaginative as possible and push the boundaries of performance and design.”
Of course, the winning design will also still need to be relatively easy so that it can be turned into a 1/64-scale toy with relative ease.
Designers will need to create both an exterior and interior design for their imagined vehicle. They will also need to imagine the vehicle’s immediate surroundings.
Anyone is able to participate in the contest and finalists will work one-on-one with members of Polestar’s design team to help fine-tune their entry.
The 2023 winner of Polestar’s design contest—a concept car called Synergy—was displayed at the Munich auto show and at the Hot Wheels Legend Tour’s stop in El Segundo, California.
Polestar will accept entries from March 5 to April 16. The winner will be revealed in the fourth quarter of 2024, meaning that the car could join the Hot Wheels catalogue in 2025.
