Cornwall, Ontario — Students at St. Lawrence College’s Cornwall campus will be getting a taste of some of the auto industry’s most cutting-edge techniques as the college announces a partnership with the Automotive Industries Association of Canada to deliver the “Innovation in Automotive Training” hands-on training course.
The free course is being offered to underemployed and unemployed automotive professionals and aims to engage those already in the industry with the latest repair methods, including potential solutions for electric and hybrid vehicle repairs and demonstrations on diagnostic scan tools.
“More Canadians than ever are driving electric vehicles,” said AIA’s program co-ordinator, Beth Steel. “This is an exciting free training course that has been developed to use the latest equipment and technology that is available.”
The course will combine classroom-based theory sessions with hands-on technical skills sessions at St. Lawrence College’s automotive lab in Cornwall, Ont, and will run on Tuesdays, in addition to half-day sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from Oct. 11 to Dec. 1.
Funding for the program has been sourced from the Ontario Skills Development Fund. Financial assistance is available for items such as transportation, day care, tools and work attire.
The course is not open to individuals already enrolled in an education or training program, however.
