Truro, Nova Scotia — At age 82, Sheldon “Joe” Blenkhorn, the founder of Blenkhorn’s Auto Recyclers and a longtime ARAAC supporter died on August 11, 2020 at home with his family by his side.
Sheldon was a longtime supporter of the Automotive Recyclers Association of Atlantic Canada (ARAAC) and one of the founders of the precursor to ARAAC, the Maritime Auto Wreckers Association. He started Blenkhorn’s Auto Recyclers in 1967 and three generations have carried on his legacy.
Sheldon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (Stewart); daughter, Shelley (Steve) Roy; son, Paul; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gordon; and sister, Ada Jamieson.
On his behalf, his family wishes to thank his work-family for their support. They also express their appreciation to the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses),Truro and Palliative Care for their caring and kindness.
Donations in Sheldon’s memory may be made to the VON,Truro, Nova Scotia or St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill. There will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
