Toronto, Ontario — Another hybrid model has been engulfed by a recall as Stellantis was forced to issue the recall of 19,808 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivans in North America due to a potential fire risk.
An internal investigation within Stellantis led to the discovery of 12 fires among model-year 2017 and 2018 vehicles, according to the company’s press release from Monday.
The release noted that all the vehicles that were reported to have caught fire were parked and turned off, eight of which were connected to chargers.
Stellantis says they are not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the fires thus far, though the company is currently working to confirm the cause.
In the press release, the company advised 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica “to refrain from recharging them, and to park them away from structures and other vehicles,” until a solution can be reached.
At this point, Stellantis estimates that about 2,317 Pacificas in Canada are likely affected by the recall. They say they will begin notifying customers of the recall this month.
