Hook, Line and Sinker: Calgary area auto facility introduces $1,000 sign-on bonus in effort to attract new talent

Calgary, Alberta — With complaints of staffing shortages echoing across various industries nationwide, bodyshops are getting creative with how they attract new, young talent.

Central Auto Care in Okotoks, Alberta, is but one business introducing incentives to attract technicians to its pool, adding a $1,000 signing bonus for successful applicants.

The shop had just two workers in the thick of the pandemic and has suffered severe staffing shortages—but since restrictions began to lighten in Alberta, the business has been able to hire on a full team.

“We hire apprentices and we help them grow,” Troy Hack, owner of Central Auto Care told CTV News. “We also offer formal training, on top of things like sign-on bonuses.”

“There’s a lot of tools our employees have to buy to keep up with industry and technology so anything our staff needs, I’ll be there to help them.”
