Toronto, Ontario — The Automotive Industry Association of Canada (AIA) is calling on the public to provide feedback and directly get involved with ongoing consultations with the Ontario government on the province’s apprenticeship and skilled trades system.
AIA is currently preparing to enter Phase 2 of talks with the government to “modernize” skilled trades in the province, and in doing so, is posing a number of questions to members of the automotive industry.
The announcement issued by AIA on Tuesday outlines four main areas in which the association is seeking feedback: Trade Prescription, Trade De-Prescription, Trade Classification and Opportunities for Initiatives that Complement Training for Tradespeople.
Trade prescription is the process in which the government “seeks specific feedback on elements that could be part of the eligibility criteria and process for prescription as a skilled trade.”
Trade de-prescription is the process in which the government “seeks feedback on what process and criteria should be followed to de-prescribe trades.”
Trade classification is the process in which the government “seeks feedback on the process and criteria for how trades could be classified or reclassified as compulsory or voluntary.”
Opportunities for Initiatives that Complement Training for Tradespeople involves addressing “other types of training or skills.”
Those interested in providing feedback to AIA have until June 14 to email their responses to erin.chreptyk@aiacanada.com.
