Toronto, Ontario — On Feb. 9, Uber Canada announced their decision to partner with Plug’n Drive, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for drivers to learn about the switch from gas to electric. This partnership aims to support their environmental goals is easing the switch to electric, something 71 percent of Canadian Uber drivers expressed interest in.
Part of Uber’s goal is to operate a zero-emission platform in Canadian cities with supportive policies by 2030, and globally by 2040.
“It’s important to consider the total cost of ownership,” said Cara Clairman, CEO of Plug’n Drive. “We know that EVs are cheaper and better for the environment, but everyone’s situation is different. This program will help raise awareness for drivers on how much money they can save and how much they can reduce their carbon footprint by switching to an EV.”
Here are some facts about EVs by Uber:
- Fewer breakdowns: EVs have 20 to 30 moving parts, gas cars have close to 2000.
Going Idle: when idling, electric motors typically consume less energy than an idling gas engine.
Morning charge: most charging takes place at home and overnight, when the cost and environmental impact is the lowest.
