Markham, Ontario — David Gold, the owner of Standard Auto Wreckers, has received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Markham Fire team for his involvement in the local auto extrication training program.
“It was very humbling for me to receive this award,” David Gold told Canadian Auto Recyclers.
Gold has offered his facility in Scarborough, Ont., as a training grounds for several local firefighter auto extrication training teams. He received the award in front of the aforementioned fire teams on site, while Fire Chief Ryan Best, Chief Rob Garland, Chief Chris Nearing and Chief Matt Keay were all present to award Gold his plaque.
Gold received the award on Oct. 30, just a week after returning from the third annual North American Vehicle Rescue Association (NAVRA) competition with the Markham Fire Department, which he has attended for all three years the event has run.
“It was great—as usual,” commented Gold.
