Toronto, Ontario – Locals could see two new, slightly unusual-looking Purolator delivery vehicles doing their rounds in Toronto and Montreal in the coming weeks thanks to a new initiative from the shipping company to help curb their carbon footprint.
Purolator will now offer zero-emission last-mile delivery solutions in the two cities, involving fully-electric, low-speed delivery trucks that take up about half the space as traditional delivery trucks, aiding in their ability to park in dense downtown areas.
In addition, Purolator will also be providing e-bike and self-serve parcel locker options to Montreal residents to further cut down on both last-mile emissions and the delays associated with city driving.
“More than ever, we’re committed to helping dense metropolitan cities operate more smoothly through new delivery methods that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said president and CEO of Purolator John Ferguson.
The COVID-19 pandemic has seen residential deliveries increase approximately 50 percent, most notably in areas designated as pedestrian-only or those with limited access for delivery trucks.
