Give it Some Grease: Honda recalls 239,000 vehicles in Canada for defective part in steering system

Toronto, Ontario — Honda Canada announced on Wednesday that it is recalling approximately 239,000 Acura and Honda vehicles for an improperly produced steering gearbox worm wheel which could result in defective steering.

This voluntary recall specifically affects 2022 to 2025 model-year vehicles and the defective part, according to the automaker, “may swell if exposed to heat and moisture, impacting the grease thickness between the gear and the connecting bar.”

An advisory statement from Honda further notes that “excessive friction between these components can cause increased steering effort and difficulty, or ‘sticky’ steering.”

Vehicle owners with affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and will receive a free repair at an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to replace the part.

The full list of affected vehicles in Canada includes:

  • 2022-2025 Honda Civic Sedan
  • 2022-2025 Honda Civic Hatchback
  • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan
  • 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback
