Toronto, Ontario —More than 154,000 Ford owners will receive a notice for the recall of their cars due to obsolete Takata parts in their airbags.
Takata airbag inflators are equipped with metal cartridges that inflate the bag in case of an emergency.
However, if the cartridge gets damaged in the event of a crash, metal shards can end up spraying passengers, resulting in serious injuries.
Ford previously recalled almost 800.000 cars that had this faulty equipment after 26 deaths worldwide.
Recently, Ford claimed that they could not locate 45 inflators. These faulty parts may have been installed in certain cars during repairs.
There will be recall notices sent for 8,800 model year 2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks that are in Canada.
Ford Rangers are not the only models affected by this recall.
The wave of recall includes these models:
- 2004-2011 Ford Ranger
- 2005-2014 Ford Mustang
- 2006 Ford GT
- 2008-2012 Ford Fusion
- 2009-2011 Mercury Milan
- 2007-2010 Ford Edge
Ford will start mailing recall notices to owners today.
