Surrey, British Columbia — Students at Surrey, B.C.’s Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) are rejoicing thanks to damage caused by summer flooding in Ford McMurray last year.
Ford of Canada and Surrey’s Dams Ford Lincoln gifted the students two water-damaged models to play with after the vehicles were deemed irreparable.
The two trucks are a 2020 Ford Explorer and a 2020 Ford F-150 and were donated as part of the Ford Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) program. Through the campaign, Ford plans to give 95 vehicles to educational institutions across the country.
“This donation will help support students as they get hands-on training to become certified automotive technicians,” said Brain Moukperian, dean of the Faculty of Trades and Technology at KPU.
The OEM is also giving students and faculty in the training program access to their online Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) training program, designed to raise awareness and increase interest in career opportunities in the automotive industry. Courses include elements from basic fundamentals to current and detailed vehicle technology systems training.
