Toronto, Ontario — March 6, 2019 — Birtle Tire and Auto in Manitoba was engulfed in flames on Tuesday resulting in the evacuation of the buildings surrounding the shop.
Deputy chief of the town’s fire department, Andrew Brydon told CBC News that an employee from the automotive repair shop pulled the alarm around 9:30 a.m.
“It was very smokey… It’s an old garage … there was a lot of tires, there was one vehicle inside, plus one off-road vehicle,” he said.
Brydon said that the nearby businesses and buildings had to be evacuated from the area because of the massive amounts of smoke and the dangers associated with the number of tires stored in the shop
With 30 firefighters and five fire trucks, the fire was finally extinguished around 3 p.m. in which the building was deemed a total loss.
No one was injured from the fire and the office of the fire commissioner is investing the cause of the fire.
