Fire at Cambridge Auto Shop Deemed Suspicious

Toronto, Ontario — June 12, 2019 — A fire that occurred at an auto body shop in Cambridge is deemed suspicious following three other incidents occurring at the shop this year.

Owner Shah Khalid took over PK Auto Care in March after moving to Canada from Australia. Since his new ownership, the shop has faced a barrage of vandalism. Two days prior to the fire, Khalid’s window was demolished by a rock.

The call came in at 3:30 a.m., Sunday morning after passersby noticed the flames. By the time the police had arrived, there had already been “substantial damage.”

It is estimated that the total of the damage is anywhere between $200,000 – $300,000. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first fire at the shop.

“Probably a year ago we were also at a fire here,” platoon chief Rick Hembley reported to CTV News. “It was also suspicious so there’s a little bit of history with this structure.”

The day before the fire, Khalid installed a security camera to watch out for activity. It was the motion detector that alerted Khalid. It was unclear whether the camera sustained the fire or gave any clue as to what started it.
