Federal documents: Autonomous cars to kill collision repair jobs

By CRM staff

October 21, 2018 — Toronto, Ontario — The Canadian Press has obtained a copy of a federal government document. The 2017 presentation, which looks at the impact that the long term impact of autonomous vehicles on Canadian jobs, suggests that more than one million trasportation sector positions – including some from within the collision repair industry – will be lost.

Researched and presented by Employment and Social Development Canada for the Liberal Government, the document suggested that autonomous vehicles would bring about the end of half-a-million transportation roles, and 600,000 positions in other transportation-related industries.

While many industry analysts remain skeptical of how much of an impact autonomous vehicles will have on accidents, a report from Tesla this month revealed that their autonomous vehicles were about seven times less likely to be in accidents than human drivers.
